DIY Tissue Rolls Craft Ideas

DIY Toilet Tissue Rolls Craft Ideas

Ok, so every time you throw those left over tissue cardboard rolls, remember you can use them for a little something :)

Wire Organizer
Welcome Door Hanger

Here is what I made out of them -

1. Wire Organizer

So I don't like all the n numbers of wires lying around & therefore I was looking for some organisation idea to keep them undercover ;) So I used these rolls as organizer separators. And here's how you do it :

Materials Required :

1. An Empty Box
2. Some leftover Tissue Rolls

Trick :

Just take a simple box you have in your house. For example, a shoe box, gift box, etc.
I had this heart shaped gift box with me. If yours is not a pretty one, you can decorate it with gift wrapping paper & some ribbons or spray paint it or whatever suits your taste..

So, just throw in some leftover tissue rolls in the box & fold those wires & data cables when not in use & keep them in the wire organizer box.

Simple!! Who knows what's inside that pretty box ;)

You can also use them to organize your make up or kids stationary & more.

2. Welcome Door Hangers

I saw this little cute owls one could make out of the tissue rolls on pinterest & I used this idea to create a nice Welcome hanging for my front door :)

Materials Required :

1. 2 Leftover Toilet Tissue Rolls
2. 1 Big Kitchen Tissue Roll
3. White Spray Paint Can
4. Acrylic Paints & small & medium brushes
5. Sketch Pens
6. Black Marker & Stic Pen
7. Green Thick Paper
8. Double Sided Tape
9. White Glue

Design Process :
  1. Firstly, spray paint the two toilet tissue rolls white. Let them dry. Later, fold one side of them in this overlapping manner as shown below.

2. Then draw the wings & eyes & other features, hair & the claws of an owl. You can play with              different eye expressions. I made one owl look a little lazy sleepy head with droopy eyes (reflecting
my husband ;) & one with bright curious eyes which is a little chirpy one like me ;) So its like the owls who are welcoming you at the front door are a reflection of us ;)

3. Then you can highlight the features, wings & the claws with a thin nib stic pen. Then start painting     the body & head. You can decide prior as to what color would the body, head & wing would be.         Play with dark & bright colors so one can differentiate it from a distance. I painted the wings by         pressing the paint brushes on the roll which left an impression of a feather. You have to repeat that     quickly in the wings area. Once you are done with the painting step, let it dry!!

4. Now you can enhance the forehead, features, claws & wings with sketch pens & color pencils.             Also, highlight the black part again with the thin stic pen or a thin marker if its light.

5. Then take a big kitchen tissue roll leftover to make the bark of the tree. Make sure the diameter of       the roll is equivalent to the diameter of the toilet tissue roll as it will be stuck on the door below the     owls. I had cut a green chart paper into to form a leaves silhouette from one side & another side           enough to paste onto the roll. Make sure you cut the leaves smaller in the center front as the owls
pasted there would be visible enough.

6. Now paste the green paper on the roll with leaves facing above. Let dry for a while. Then paint the paper over the roll area with light & dark brown acrylic paints like in the picture shown below. Let dry.

7. Now it should it look something like this. You don't need to paste the owls on the bark. I just kept       it to see how it looks.

 8. Now first decide at what height you wish to stick it on the door & place some good double sided        tape on the back of the owl rolls vertically & stick them on the door. And then paste some DS             Tape on the bark horizontally & stick it on the door just below the owl maintaining the center.

Voilaa!!! Your Welcome Hanger is Ready :)

You can place these cute owlies anywhere in your home. You can use it for your children's room decor or may be in your little indoor garden like this..

Pickle Pav Bhaji

Tasty Indian street food dish with potatoes & veggies cooked in tangy tomato & butter sauce served with crispy buns. It is surely a Must try!!

Ingredients:

Potatoes - 3 Medium
Cauliflower - 400gm
Bottle gourd/Lauki - 250gm
Capsicum - 1 medium
Peas - 100gm
Onions - 2 medium
Tomatoes - 4 medium
Ginger Paste - 1tsp
Garlic paste - 1 tbsp
Tomato Puree (Optional)
Masalas-
Haldi

Kalonji
Coriander powder
Red chilly powder
Achari powder mix (Optional)
Amchur/ Mango powder
Lemon
Butter
6 in 1 Square Pav Packet(Square Buns)
For Garnishing-
I onion chopped
Coriander chopped
Salted Butter (Optional)

Method:

  1. Cut potatoes & bottle gourd into small pieces & cauliflower into small florets. Heat some oil in a pressure cooker & add a pinch of turmeric powder & 1tsp salt to it. Add the diced potatoes, bottle gourd, cauliflower florets & 1/3 of the peas & pressure cook them till its nicely boiled & mash-able.

  2. Meanwhile saute chopped onions in a big pan till golden brown.Take it out.
  3. Add some butter (or Olive oil) and saute tomatoes till they leave oil. This should take about 15 mins as the tomatoes base the flavor of the dish. Add some ginger & garlic paste & keep stirring for a while.
  4. Then add some oil if required or else add 1/4th tsp of Nigella seeds (Kalonji) & Asateofedia (Hing). Then, add 1tsp Turmeric powder (Haldi), coriander powder, red chilly powder & mango powder (Amchur) & a lil water to stir it in the tomato paste. Also at this time I add some ready made tomato paste to give it some color & richness. (Also if the tomato paste seems less for the veggies ;)
  5. Now I add some Achar powder (Pickle powder) to it as I like its tangy taste. Its totally optional, so suit your taste buds. I add a 1-2 tsp of Achar Gosht Spcie Mix (Picture below) which is readily available in an Asian/Pakistani store. Also, you can make the Pickle/Achaar Spice Powder at home. I will post the recipe asap :)
  6. Once the spices are all cooked & blended into the tomato paste , add the chopped capsicum & the remaining peas to it & cook for a while till they are crispy.
  7. Meanwhile, your vegetables would have been cooked in the pressure cooker. Open the lid & stir them well with the ladle.
  8. .Now gently add them to the tomato paste in the pan. Mix well, cover with the lid & let them cook for a while on low flame.
  9. Open & adjust the the salt & red chilly powder according to your taste & sprinkle some fresh lemon juice or concentrate & mix.
  10. Press the mixture with this ladle shown in the picture below (Available in IKEA) or a steel square shaped ladle with a 90 degree handle as available in an Indian household. Basically to mash the mixture.
  11. Voila!! Your dish is ready. Garnish it with some chopped onions & coriander & also some salted butter. (Try Amul butter, if available :)
  12. Now, cut the Pav - square buns into halves & pour some olive oil on a flat pan & pan fry for a min each side till crispy.
  13. Serve the Pav & Bhaji along with some chopped onions & coriander to sprinkle on. Also, some butter would be nice :D

Enjoy this wonderful recipe on a little get together or on a weekend, Since you can use the leftover Bhaji for the next day & you just need to pan fry the buns & its ready. Also, its good for your kids school tiffin or a picnic.

Moroccan handpainted DIY IKEA Clock

Hey guys this is one of my home makeover DIY projects. Since I had bought this basic IKEA watch for my kitchen, I had my creative side poking me to just personalize it asap. And so one fine day I just decided to throw some white spray paint on it & paint on it with my acrylic colors. And since I am in love with the Moroccan Art & Architecture.. I said why not paint it blue with some nice Moroccan geometrical pattern. Ok so here's how you do it..

Material Required:
Old Wall Clock
Spray paint can (Choose your color)
Acrylic Paint
Sleek Round Brush
Pencil & eraser
Gloves

My Process:

I just looked for some Moroccan geometrical designs online & drew them on the plastic circumference of the watch with a HB Faber Castell pencil & choose this design finally & erased the other ones.

Then I measured one single block as it was a repetitive pattern & marked dots with the help of a fabric inch tape & pencil all over the circumference.

Then I made the design all over with a 2B pencil as I wanted it as a guideline to be visible over the white paint.

And my husband helped me dismantle the clock & I took just the plastic frame&  spray painted it. Try & paint it in an outdoor but place it straight as if on the wall & shake the can well before application & then spray evenly & smoothly all over from a distance. Let it dry for an hour. You can assemble the clock at this moment or later.

Afterwards I painted the clock circumference with Ultramarine Blue acrylic color with the help of a sleep round brush. And Voilaaa my ceramic look alike White & Blue Moroccan inspired Wall Clock was Readyy!!! :)

Now you can't get this in IKEA or any other household you visit ;)

You can do something with sharpie permanent markers or colorful beads or lace or anything you have. I saw many other versions of this clock makeover on pinterest. The most common one was a gift paper or a map neatly glued on to the inside of the clock onto the black & white number dial paper.

Pin it on your To DIY List if you Like it!! :)
